Standard VMware Networking

VMware NSX (software-defined networking)

How is it configured ?
Create Port Groups, It contains the VLAN ID.

vSwitch
Virtual Switch is a logical switch that connects port groups/vms and physical nic.

Below is the vSwitch0 topology. It is mapped to the physical NIC and VMs.

Physical NIC – vmnic0

VMKernel NIC – VMkernel NIC(vmk0) is the IP interface which is used for management connectivity

Switch Configuration:
vmnic0 is connected to Switch Port 1/1/25.
I have configured IP address on VLAN 26 and 40, so that it acts as default gateway to vm services and management.
Switch port 1/1/1 is assigned to VLAN 26, so that I can reach the vm management using 1/1/1 interface.
Switch port 1/1/2 is assigned to VLAN 40, so that I can reach the vm services using 1/1/2 interface.
